In this erotic take off on Body Heat, Herschel Savage plays a corrupt cop who'll screw anything in sight. He goes from buffing a hooker (Janey Robbins) in a police line-up to making it with a female dispatch officer (Kimberly Carson). Maddy Stone, a peripatetic wheeler-dealer who would have made Auntie Mame wilt with envy, suddenly finds herself a widow after an especially heavy afternoon of amour. In fact, her husband literally expires inflagrente delecto.

Quickly taking stock of her assets and liabilities, Maddy discovers that she has just enough money for three more years of high living and two teenage daughters who are being raised in a strict finishing school catered to by neglectful
mothers. Maddy pulls her daughters out of school and ever mindful of her three year limit embarks on a crash program to groom and prepare her lovely offspring into snaring the wealthy. Maddy’s motto is quite succinct: “…either get a proposal or get pregnant!’

Maddy’s two daughters are as different as two girls could be. Penny is serious, cynical and intelligent. She is constantly challenging her mother’s “game plan.” Cissy, on the other hand, is Candy, Little Annie Fannie and any other super nymphette you may have heard of all rolled into one and to her Maddy’s program is going to be one big (no pun intended) ball.

Once they have been schooled in the arts of attracting the opposite sex with special emphasis on how to make it in the bedroom (as brought about by a stud-tutor who is an old friend of Maddy’s) the two girls and their mother take off on a quest for quick security before the well runs dry.

Evidence is mounting that the erotic film industry has turned a corner, and the vision of hot movies that also work as cinema on all levels will become a reality in this decade. Already twice this year, CAV has reviewed at least three features that were solidly and tastefully put together; films that managed to involve the viewer in the story without losing any heat. WOMAN IN LOVE, DEEP RUB, and AMERICAN DESIRE all seemed to this reviewer to reach the highwater mark in erotic cinema, and now HIGH SCHOOL MEMORIES joins that list.

Everyone who cares knows that Anthony Spinelli is one of the best directors in the business. His films have that "professional" look needed to garner bookings in the best theaters. Personally, I have sometimes felt that he gave so much  attention to the non-sexual material that his sex scenes seemed a bit perfunctory. Not so with this his latest release.

HIGH SCHOOL MEMORIES is hotter than an adolescent's wet dream. It is a landscape people with lubricous cheerleaders who cheerfully spread for randy footballers. There is enough wacko silliness to make you think you're watching yet another exercise in undergraduate humor. But wait! Something is different.

For one thing, the humor is handled by a naturalness and deftness beyond the reach of all but the most accomplished Hollywood actors. Porno people may not be able to play 'style', but give them characters close to themselves, a little freedom to ad lib and be spontaneous , and they can sometimes be completely convincing.

This is the picture for which John Leslie won his second Erotica Award as Best Actor in 1982. Wicked Sensations has been something of a sleeper, receiving less publicity than has Nothing To Hide, the Best Picture winner in which Leslie also starred. 'Wicked' was produced by Jerry Ross, producer of the original Talk Dirty To Me which won John his first Best Actor in '81.

John plays a successful writer and Annette Haven is his live-in girlfriend who's a bit on the unresponsive side so that he's driven to other women - not that he needs much driving. The horny and restless John likes to climb out onto his apartment balcony and watch his neighbor and friend Paul Thomas ball the assorted girls he brings home. Annette catches John watching Paul putting it to Mai Lin. She's horrified and insists he go to a shrink to find out what's wrong with him and get his terrible sexual compulsion relieved.

Paul recommends a doctor friend of his; when John goes to see the doctor he finds himself making love to one of his patients and is disillusioned. Why should he change his ways if the doc himself is a free-wheeling cocksman? While he's in the medical building John sees Diana Holt leaving and falls in love with her on sight. He follows her and learns she's going away on a skiing holiday in the mountains. When John goes home unrepentant his Annette throws him out. So John and Paul get together and take off for the mountain ski resort to search for Diana.




When they get to the resort, to their delight they find it full of single women of all shapes and sizes. Paul plunges right in and latches onto every woman who even gives him a second glance. He has some wild bed sessions with Holly McCall and Chris Cassidy, and John gets him out of a few scrapes with jealous lovers.

Well, here it is, the second movie preview brought to you by yours truly, at your request. Let me tell you, when my first review hit the stands, the phone just about rang itself off the hook. Oh it was so exciting! So many of you wonderful, darling readers called up asking questions about me, like "was I still a kid?" Whatever it was, it is always fun to get a phone call! Then, there was a nice guy asking me all about my commitments. He was kinda confusing, though, so I put him on the phone with Joyce James, and she said that the man wanted to know when I was being committed. As usual, that woman is jealous of my talents, and is still trying to get me fired. But with all the wonderful responses to my last month's review, there was no choice but to rehire me, so tuffskis on you, Joyce.

Not that the last month has ben a bed of roses. J.W. Hardon was a little bit embarrassed by my article, especially the part about him wearing women's underwear. He's taking it very well, though, and I don't think the article has hurt our relationship. At least, I don't think it has; I haven't been able to ask him yet, since he keeps hanging up on me when I call and saying , "Drop dead, finkface." Of course, this is just part of J.W.'s great sense of humor, which is sooooo adorable. At least J.W.'s girlfriend didn't mind the article. She even called me up and thanked me for it. "Angel," she said,  "you unwittingly did me a great service; now I know what a treacherous, deceitful, corrupt bucket of festering fazool that J.W. is." Now, J.W's girlfriend is a college girl, if you know what I mean, so naturally I didn't know what those words meant, but I guess she was talking about how much better she understands J.W. now, which is really important if you're going to be somebody's girlfriend, for crying out loud. Oops, I mean, ex-girlfriend. For some reason, they don't seem to be going out together anymore. This is too bad, since they made such a nice couple.

Annette made her first hardcore performance in 1973 with ‘Lady Freaks’; she was often put into roles where she played the innocent virgin or confident executive. An intelligent actress with the ability to play a range of roles, Annette was hoping to change the way Americans thought about sex. Annette found herself getting more roles as professional women that were secure in their sexuality.

Annette became one of the first actresses elected to the group’s Performer Hall of Fame for X-Rated Critics’ Organization. She also received a Best Supporting Actress award for Adult Film Association of America in 1977 for her work in "Coming of Angels". It has been a long time coming, but the line has finally been crossed. That fine line that allows the story to motivate the sex, making it believable and therefore truly erotic and sensual. An entire real motion picture in place of the imitations of wall-to-wall sex with the "fluff" that is considered "story" in most adult films. Instead "Sex World" is a brilliantly produced, directed and written motion picture, lavish in its setting and sensitive and rewarding in its story, and a total turn-on for its audiences! The story deals with Sex World, a dude-ranch type Shangri-La for sex, where people can openly admit their sexual hang-ups and fantasies, and, encouraged by trained counselors, can spend a weekend and experience any sexual desire he or she wishes.

When asked by a quest shortly after his arrival whether their partners would be real people, the social director of Sex World advises the entire group that the sex partners would be whatever or whoever each guest wanted them

to be, and if they would leave all the inhibitions and sexual hang-ups behind for this weekend, they would leave Sex World with a greater understanding of their problems and a deeper insight into their own partners.

A hand-picked cast of superb actors and actresses headed by Sharon Thorpe, who gives a stunning performance as a shy and introverted woman with few friends who, as a last resort, comes to Sex World to find some kind of happiness and love. Her two wishes which she confides to her Sex World counselor are to have someone be kind to her, and to have Johnnie Keys of BEHIND THE GREEN DOOR fame make love to her in exactly the same way Keys performed with Marilyn Chambers in GREEN DOOR. The Technicians and the giant computer at Sex World turn her fantasy into reality and she has a devastating sexual encounter that could turn on a statue.

The rest of the star-studded cast who each lend their own touch to this remarkable film are: Leslie Bovee, Annette Haven, Desiree West, John Leslie, and two beautiful newcomers, Kay Parker and Suzette Holland. Producer Harold Lime, the Louis B. Mayer of porn, set out to make big studio-type movies with all star casts, lavish production values and an upbeat message. Before hitting his stride in his justly praised collaborations with Gary Graver a/k/a "Robert McCallum" as the '70s gave way to the '80s (ECSTASY GIRLS, AMANDA BY NIGHT, INDECENT EXPOSURE), he had already teamed up with another co-conspirator from his sexploitation days when he was better known as "Ted Paramore", the man who gave the world the classic "nudie cutie" NOT TONIGHT, HENRY. The filmmaker in question was the sadly overlooked Richard Kanter, who had made the popular RIBALD TALES OF ROBIN HOOD prior to embarking on an all too short-lived explicit career as "Ramsey Karson". Though his initial alignment with Lime remains his finest achievement, he would also direct the massively underrated "loop carrier" UNTAMED and the bloated if occasionally effective SENSUAL ENCOUNTERS OF EVERY KIND for him. For DESIRES WITHIN YOUNG GIRLS, a title forever targeted by moral crusaders because of its supposed pedophile suggestion (oh, get a life, you lot !), this twosome emulated Old Hollywood in their choice of material as well as style with a sexed-up rendition of the Marilyn Monroe soufflé HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE.

When aging gold-digger Madeleine Stone (the incomparable Georgina Spelvin) embraces widowhood for the second time as husband number 2 (John Leslie in fairly convincing old man make-up) comes and goes at the same time, if you catch my drift, she finds her amorously amassed fortune dwindling rapidly. The time is ripe to call on her two daughters from her first marriage who have been kept stashed away at a posh boarding school out of mom's way. Now that she considers herself too old to trap a wealthy spouse, Maddie wants her girls to pick up where she left off and marry into money. While adventurous Cissy (Annette Haven displaying rarely tapped comedic abilities) is pretty much game for any scheme her mother could dream up, the more level-headed Penny (unjustly forgotten Clair Dia who had co-starred with Spelvin in Graver's excellent 3 A.M.) refuses to go along now that she has found love with her drama teacher Marc (also played by John Leslie). A maiden attempt to get Cissy hitched to a rich ranch owner's hilariously cowpoke son ("Radio" Ray Wells) doesn't provide the expected result. So Maddie decides to throw her offspring to the wolves – pity the wolves ! – by attending an elegantly perverted soirée thrown by her old friend and partner in slime Harrison, another expert portrayal of sophisticated sleaze by the legendary John Alderman a/k/a "Frank Hollowell". This lengthy sequence makes up the meat of the movie and comprises several well-done erotic encounters. A stroke of genius caused the casting of near lookalikes Bonnie Holiday, star Haven's erstwhile girlfriend who introduced her to the industry and subsequently made history, and all but forgotten Joan Devlon (who did her finest work in William Dancer's seldom seen NIGHT PLEASURES) for the obligatory Sapphic session, as the model and the snooty Baroness respectively, scored with the kind of mock Morricone music that always seemed to accompany such scenes in '60s saucy Euro fare. Cissy's supposed S&M session with campy General Carl Irwin (one of the "Magnificent 7" from Antonio Shepherd's 7 INTO SNOWY) remains one of the funniest moments in any sex comedy. Penny expertly turns off – no, that's not a typo ! – millionaire playboy Turk Lyon with Cissy stepping in for some carnal comfort. Dominatrix Sabrina (who had a small part in Bob Chinn's very funny HARD SOAP HARD SOAP) wanders about threatening various participants yet remains all talk and little action. One of this reviewer's all time favorite scenes comes – and, boy, does it ever ! – in the gentle deflowering of devastatingly handsome Jon Martin (those familiar with his near-mummified appearance of the late '80s are in for a serious shock) at the hands and so much more of achingly sweet Gail Lawrence a/k/a "Abigail Clayton" and fly by night starlet Stacy Evans. Annette's frequent screen partner Paul Thomas provides the romantic capper as Maddie's plans are sabotaged, or are they ?

A final word on Caballero's current DVD presentation of this classic. A lengthy film for its day, when everything over 90 minutes was considered excessive, it has rarely been seen in a complete version. Alas, this is still not the case. Though they have reinstated the casually cut seduction of Clair Dia by John Leslie, an exceptionally erotic encounter I am glad to have finally witnessed, this apparently came at the expense of another highlight : Annette's energetic romp with chauffeur John Seeman. An early crucial expository sequence of Georgina picking the girls up from school has also been completely removed, presumably because of the (clearly adult) actresses' school girl uniforms and the under-age implications thereof, but it makes the flick's story-line unnecessarily incoherent. A trivia note in parting. The film's cast contains an inordinate amount of performers who would become directors in their own right eventually. Now, Leslie and Thomas are obvious, but John Seeman would also go on to make several interesting movies like VIRGINIA and TEN LITTLE MAIDENS and Clair Dia was one of all too few (albeit short-lived) female filmmakers with the wonderful HEALTH SPA and its sweet sleeper follow-up SCREWPLES.
