Chris Warfield's CHAMPAGNE FOR BREAKFAST bubbles with good humor and effervescent sex. As Champagne, a lady exec with a licentious turn, Leslie Bovee goes right to your head. The way she sips semen like it was Dom Perignon could a man pop his cork just watching.

This smoothly-crafted movie has more good laughs than a presidential inauguration, and the performances are more believable. The plot isn't always plausible, but the premise is. A top female executive in an ad agency uses her two-week vacation to do some catching up on her 'homework'. It seems she has been allowing her career to take a back seat, and she wants to rectify that by putting her backfield in motion.

The picture opens with Champagne's promotion to vice president in charge of merchandising. The boss's daughter (Bonnie Holliday) reminds her of the prerogatives of power: namely, that she can now use her position to get sex from ambitious young men. Evidence is mounting that the erotic film industry has turned a corner, and the vision of hot movies that also work as cinema on all levels will become a reality in this decade. Already twice this year, CAV has reviewed at least three features that were solidly and tastefully put together; films that managed to involve the viewer in the story without losing any heat. WOMAN IN LOVE, DEEP RUB, and AMERICAN DESIRE all seemed to this reviewer to reach the highwater mark in erotic cinema, and now HIGH SCHOOL MEMORIES joins that list.

Everyone who cares knows that Anthony Spinelli is one of the best directors in the business. His films have that "professional" look needed to garner bookings in the best theaters. Personally, I have sometimes felt that he gave so much  attention to the non-sexual material that his sex scenes seemed a bit perfunctory. Not so with this his latest release.

HIGH SCHOOL MEMORIES is hotter than an adolescent's wet dream. It is a landscape people with lubricous cheerleaders who cheerfully spread for randy footballers. There is enough wacko silliness to make you think you're watching yet another exercise in undergraduate humor. But wait! Something is different.

For one thing, the humor is handled by a naturalness and deftness beyond the reach of all but the most accomplished Hollywood actors. Porno people may not be able to play 'style', but give them characters close to themselves, a little freedom to ad lib and be spontaneous , and they can sometimes be completely convincing.

Constance Money (The Opening of Misty Beethoven) is back on the adult screen after an absence of five years. As all good porn fans know, the fresh-faced, vital, captivating Constance is the star who zoomed to fame with her memorable performance in the 1976 award-winning classic The Opening of Misty Beethoven. Constance retired to private life after making a few more movies, but the continuing popularity of Misty and the praise she received for it finally induced her to come back. Produced by Mike Paulson, A Taste of Money is supposed to be the true life story of her return to erotic movies. Almost true, anyway.

Teamed with Constance in A Taste are top adult film stars John Leslie and Jamie Gillis, who along with Sharon Mitchell give Connie advice as she ponders the offer of an eager producer (Paul Thomas) to come back to the X-rated scene. The plot gets rather complex. Constance gets advice from her friend Sharon, while a masseur works her over.

This is the picture for which John Leslie won his second Erotica Award as Best Actor in 1982. Wicked Sensations has been something of a sleeper, receiving less publicity than has Nothing To Hide, the Best Picture winner in which Leslie also starred. 'Wicked' was produced by Jerry Ross, producer of the original Talk Dirty To Me which won John his first Best Actor in '81.

John plays a successful writer and Annette Haven is his live-in girlfriend who's a bit on the unresponsive side so that he's driven to other women - not that he needs much driving. The horny and restless John likes to climb out onto his apartment balcony and watch his neighbor and friend Paul Thomas ball the assorted girls he brings home. Annette catches John watching Paul putting it to Mai Lin. She's horrified and insists he go to a shrink to find out what's wrong with him and get his terrible sexual compulsion relieved.

Paul recommends a doctor friend of his; when John goes to see the doctor he finds himself making love to one of his patients and is disillusioned. Why should he change his ways if the doc himself is a free-wheeling cocksman? While he's in the medical building John sees Diana Holt leaving and falls in love with her on sight. He follows her and learns she's going away on a skiing holiday in the mountains. When John goes home unrepentant his Annette throws him out. So John and Paul get together and take off for the mountain ski resort to search for Diana.




When they get to the resort, to their delight they find it full of single women of all shapes and sizes. Paul plunges right in and latches onto every woman who even gives him a second glance. He has some wild bed sessions with Holly McCall and Chris Cassidy, and John gets him out of a few scrapes with jealous lovers.

Clifford Jackson is a handsome young stud who seemingly has all those special things that the good life has to offer: money, a beautiful home, expensive cars, and the most special thing of all - his wife Ginger - voluptuous, desirable, and very willing!

As Foxy Lady opens, Clifford is enjoying one of his favorite hobbies, soaring over the windswept coast in a hang glider as Ginger watches and waits below. She is not the only one watching. She propositions him, and in a matter of 1-2-3, they are (1) in her room, (2) out of their clothes, and (3) hungrily hot at each other's body. Right in the middle of everything, Clifford proposes a very bizarre sex act, but the lady is not too willing. However, she calls to her roommate Linda, who is asleep in the other room. Linda is only too happy to participate, and what follows is a free swinging, sweat flying, naked bodies humping menage-a-trois that boggles the eyes.

Getting Off (1979)

If getting off is all you care about, then "GETTING OFF" may be the movie for you. Film students and 'cineasts' should seek out more substantial fare, as this oeuvre by Hayes DuPree is more like a plate of hors d'oeuvres than a square meal; but if spicy tidbits tickle your libido, you're going to eat this one up!

Desiree Cousteau, John Leslie, and Pat Manning are the nominal stars, but most of the really hot stuff comes from the somewhat anonymous supporting cast. DuPree has strung together some down and dirty 'loops' in a lewd necklace of carnal gems. Each sex scene is hotter and nastier than the one before, and the sound of rustling raincoats rises rhythmically from the audience as they keep time to this crescendo of lust. One is tempted to tap along.

The technique of making a feature out of unrelated sex scenes with a little "transitional material" thrown in to "tie it all together" may result in a film lacking unity in the Aristotelian sense. But who really gives a shit? I mean, we go to these things to get hot, right? If we want culture, we'll go to a film with subtitles. If we want a hard-on, we go to cinema with a capital SIN.

The transitional scenes of "GETTING OFF" are mostly lower-case; but the loops between are definitely capital X. The women seem possessed. Like sharks in a feeding frenzy, they gobble flesh and lap up the juices. Such involvement, such commitment is admirable in any endeavor; in erotic films, it's an unexpected bonus. These girls look as thought they're in it for the fun, and wouldn't stop fucking if bombs started falling.

The set-up for the story goes like this. A dominant mistress, played by Pat Manning, shows off her new sex slave (Desiree Cousteau) to one of her regular customers, John Leslie. Pat makes the girl lift her skirt for John's inspection, then slowly shoves a rose up Desiree's twat (note to the Society For the Prevention of Cruelty to Pussies: the rose was de-thorned).
